Overview

This trip is no longer active. Please contact us for details

On the Torres del Paine Taster, Don your riding boots and ride out into the beautiful wilderness with true Patagonian cowboys on this exciting taster ride in the fabulous Torres del Paine National Park. This is the perfect ride to tag onto a hiking trip or a longer trip through Chile.

Accommodation is in a mix of lodgings including a country house hotel in Puerto Natales and three nights sleeping outside in tents while in the Park. The campsites have been chosen in the best locations and to reach the best riding away from the main hiking trails (all sites have hot showers and bathrooms). All gear is provided when camping (mountain tents, sleeping pads, sleeping bags & liners) and a dedicated BlueGreen chef will be preparing your meals. *For those who would prefer not to camp, it is possible to upgrade to the Pampa Lodge at an extra cost.

Luggage is moved by vehicle or 4×4 and you are provided with saddle bags to carry water, suncream, lunch box

On arrival during late afternoon at the campsites, wine and canapes are served giving riders ample time to relax while the evening meal is prepared. A dining tent for eating and cooking provides shelter during meal times or riders can opt to dine beside the campfire. There is a varied dinner menu of fish, chicken, pasta, steak and lamb (which is a local staple), served with fresh salads and vegetables, accompanied by Chilean wine. Fruit and cheese are served for dessert.

  • Overview:
The horses are Criollo crosses and vary in size with the majority being between 14 - 15.2 hands, they are strong, fit and willing to move out when asked. Horses are changed half way through the trip to ensure that they are fresh. Riders are not responsible for grooming or tacking, as there are Chilean horsemen (Baqueanos) that care for the horses on the ride. The tack is Chilean. This is similar to western tack with comfortable suede/sheepskin lined saddles. Rawhide straps are used as girths giving more security than traditional string girths. The style of riding is western and the horses respond to neck reining. Most of the horses are ridden in simple snaffles.

Our Randonnée Liberté trip was fabulous:  excellent horses, gorgeous scenery including medieval castles, enchanting towns, delightful countryside, woods, mountains and more.  The proprietors of the gites and chambres d'hôte where we stayed were hospitable, personable and served up wonderful French country cuisine including superb picnic lunches which we relished in a variety of picturesque locations. I highly recommend this trip for those who seek a special adventure and appreciate setting their own pace - we took our time where we pleased and, when we wanted to gallop, we were not constrained by any less daring or less capable riders, as can happen with an unknown group. The only caveat I'd voice is that those who choose the Randonée Liberté must be quite comfortable with the responsibility of caring for their own horses, and commensurate riders who can manage to handle a map, compass, written directions and reins without three hands!
