Argentina

The Argentine gaucho is as picturesque as the American cowboy, but while the classic cowboy of the American West is a dieing breed, the traditional life of the gaucho in Argentina is very much alive.

This huge and varied country stretches from spectacular Iguazu Falls in the north to the jagged glaciers of Tierra del Fuego in the south which is as long a distance as from northern Maine to Florida. Much of it is wide open pampas covered with wonderful grass for cows and it is ideal ranching country. Buenos Aires is one of the world’s largest and most vibrant cities.

The Estancia Los Potreros has been in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations and is a 6,000 acre cattle ranch in the mountains just north of Cordoba. This ranch does an excellent job of blending the best of local culture with our own so that guests feel entirely at home while being exposed to the most picturesque aspects of life on an Argentine ranch.

Climate in Argentina

The area of Cordoba, where the Estancia los Potreros is located, is known for its good weather and healthy climate; “siempre de temporada” always in season is the old slogan.  The estancia is open year round.  The climate can vary but is generally sunny and dry, the rainy season is in the summer months December – March.   Rains do not hinder the trail riding, but may affect polo.  The winter is short but can be cold; it is usually warm and sunny in the middle of the day. The sun can be very strong so hats and good protection are recommended year round. During the winter it is usually sunny and dry and cold at night, it is good weather for riding but not swimming weather.  The pool is open October – April.  The best time for bird watching is October-February.

Estancia Los Potreros

Estancia Los Potreros is an ideal location for a horseback riding trip in Argentina. It is a 6,000 acre working cattle ranch and has remained in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations. The Estancia is secluded on top of the Sierra Chicas at an altitude of 3,000 feet and located between the pampas and the Andes in the heart of the Cordoba region. Known... Browse itinerary

I recently returned from Estancia Los Potreros in Argentina and my heart and head are still in the clouds! I took Hadley's suggestion and am so very impressed with their ranch. The horses are sure-footed in this often rocky expanse, have good manners, soft mouths and are well trained. If asked... it would be impossible for me to choose a favorite mount. Their numerous dogs often joined uns on our treks and provided plenty of love upon our return. The landscape changed dramatically during our rides and flowers were in bloom. The various birds were aplenty, including hummingbirds. The delicious and varied meals were professionally prepared, including fresh bread baked every day. The staff (guides, gauchos, owners Kevin and Lou Beggs) have made every effort to know the guests from other countries. Thank you to you, Equitours and the Fox family for helping me plan this amazing adventure!
