Rained out of the Masai Mara but still a great safari in Kenya

Joan and Mike Schulman know the value of a quality horseback riding vacation. They have been using Equitours and visiting Bitterroot Ranch for a number of years now. Joan and Mike’s most recent trip was to Kenya with Richard Fox. Here is the first of two excerpts of their ride review.

“We had a wonderful time on our African Safari. Although we had our hearts set on Masai Mara (even Equitours can not control the rain) the Laikipia Safari was awesome!

We started out at the beautiful Deloraine. Cindy and her horses were amazing. After Deloraine, we headed to our first campsite. The camping, although not my favorite part, was certainly first rate. I still do not know how they got those truly delicious meals out of that cooking tent! I couldn’t even begin to pick out my favorite wildlife moment since each one was better than the other and all were more than I had imagined. The climb to the waterfalls, waking up to the mist on the river, or watching the herd of hippos from the riverbank at sunset–this was truly a trip to remember.”

“I thought that we would just have to go to Africa once to see it, but we are going to have to go back. The group of strangers that were in our group did not stay strangers long. We could not have hand picked a better group. The dinner conversations were very entertaining, and Richard was not the only one in the hot seat, although we did seem to pick on him the most! We ended our safari at the beautiful Sosian Ranch. The brochures do not in any way do it justice. The ranch is beautiful as well as extremely comfortable. I would give the Sosian accommodations a 5 star rating.

We look forward to our annual horseback riding vacation to the Bitterroot Ranch this summer, and can not wait to plan our next big adventure with Equitours. It will be hard to top the Laikipia Safari.”
