Continuing to Learn – Testimonial from Hill Country Instructional Clinic

Michelle Jackson shares the experience in Texas

Our 4-day clinic included morning lessons in groundwork that incorporated body language and breathing exercises to improve communication between horse and rider as well as developing good posture and balance when mounted. Further development focused on having a quiet seat and visualizations for Centered Riding. One morning lesson was on bareback that gave us a better understanding and feel of our horses movement and athleticism. On our last clinic day, aids and cues were put together for the walk/trot/canter as well as a friendly game of barrel racing!

The afternoons consisted of guided trail rides in the beautiful Hill Country that allowed us to practice the skills that were taught each morning. The clinic was taught by the lodge owner and program director, Dianne, who appreciated open communication to get the most out of our lessons. Her teaching skills were direct, and ample time was provided to practice each new skill set. Her horses were beautifully taken care of, and her staff were helpful with all our riding needs. Additionally, the clinic is geared towards all skill levels.

Our accommodation was super cozy in a well-equipped and tastefully decorated cabin with a front porch with a nice view.

Meals were eaten in the main lodge and prepared by Dianne’s husband Peter who appeared happy to please. We had a beautiful sky at sunset, and the nighttime was perfect for star gazing. We look forward to attending another one of their clinics as there are different types offered. The lodge is located in Bandera TX, noted as the Cowboy Capital of the World with some great shopping and eateries (don’t miss Western Trail Antiques)! It is also centrally located between Austin and San Antonio if you are looking to extend your stay.
