Browsing Great for Non-riding Companions

On many of our tours non-riders can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to that particular place and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.

In Europe non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can rejoin the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. The Loire Valley in
France is particularly attractive with many of the most beautiful castles in the world. Another place full of rich, easily reached historical and cultural sites is Tuscany in Italy. Great art treasures from the Renaissance and Roman times are everywhere.

Many of the rides in Africa offer excellent opportunities for non-riders to view game by vehicle. The Serengeti Migration Ride in Tanzania is a mixed riding/vehicle safari giving participants a better chance of viewing the whole extent of the annual migration of over a million wildebeest and zebra. There are also encounters with the picturesque local Masai and an opportunity to visit Olduvai Gorge, a key site for early hominid discoveries by Mary and Louis Leakey. The Okavango Delta safari in Botswana has a special itinerary for non-riders with canoeing, game viewing by vehicle and world class fly fishing. The ride in Zimbabwe includes an excursion to Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the natural world. There is also excellent game viewing by vehicle in Victoria Falls National Park and a nearby game reserve dedicated to saving the endangered black rhino. Mozambique has world class fishing and snorkeling as well as some of the best beach riding anywhere.

In South America non-riders will find plenty to do in Brazil where they can visit the Pantanal, the largest wetland in the world. Rides are offered seasonally based at historic family ranches. Non- riders will be fascinated by the incredible variety of birds as well as unusual animals such as capybara and caiman which they can see from boats or vehicles. For particularly energetic non-riders Ecuador is a good choice. There are great opportunities for hiking and it is also possible to climb the perfect volcanic cone of Cotopaxi. One must be in good shape for that due to the altitude. An excellent extension to this tour is a visit to the Galapagos Islands, a short flight from Quito, which were so important to Darwin’s research.

At our remote Bitterroot Ranch in Wyoming non-riders can fly fish, hike or make excursions to Yellowstone Park, Jackson Hole and other nearby points of interest. The private trout stream running through the center of the ranch provides excellent fly fishing and stocked ponds offer a chance for novices to learn the sport.
