Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Baiona and settle into your cozy accommodation in one of the two cottages in the quaint town.  In the afternoon head to the ranch outside of town where you will get to know the horses and enjoy a 2-3 hour assessment ride into the mountains behind the stables. And you’ll learn how to ride safely in the mountain terrain you are going to encounter during the week. Return to Baiona for a welcome dinner and a good nights rest.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast head back to the ranch and get started on the ride south,  climbing into the Serra da Groba, in search of semi-wild horses that roam freely here.

By late afternoon reach the riverside camp. After settling the horses, enjoy a swim in natural pools and enjoy a savory BBQ under the stars.

*If weather conditions are not suitable for camping, you stay in a traditional village house nearby.

Day 3

Wake up refreshed having slept in the cool mountain air, and savor breakfast before you begin the descent through local villages into wine country. Visit the vineyards for a wine tasting and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Afterwards enjoy a few gallops through the vineyards and, if weather and conditions allow, you may stop to swim in natural river pools along the way.

Arrive at your hotel for the night, delight in gastronomic local dishes at dinner and explore the town afterwards. Overnight boutique hotel.

Day 4

After breakfast ride towards the Portuguese border and cross the Miño River bridge – an unforgettable moment as you cross an international border on horseback!

Continue riding along the river bank, a stunning and scenic route and have lunch at a local restaurant. Arrive at the accommodation for the night – a family-owned boutique hotel near the river.

In the afternoon have fun with water activities – you can swim with the horses or play in the water. Dinner is served at the hotel, followed by a board game night.

Day 5

Atlantic Coast Adventure

After breakfast saddle up and ride along the Atlantic Coast towards Viana do Castelo. A day of gallops on long empty beaches, riding through forests and charming Portuguese towns.

Arrive at your accommodations in the afternoon – a two story house with large  bedrooms, kitchen, living room and private bathrooms.

Day 6

Take a last, shorter morning ride to meet the trucks. Say good-bye to the horses and take a separate transfer back to Galicia.

This ride for me was the best Equitours vacation I have taken so far. Very happy with all aspects - would be eager to go back and bring along some friends. A great ride - somewhat of a challenge - lots of trots, canters, gallops - wonderful well-conditioned horses. Loved it!
