Horseback Riding in Oregon

Willamette Coast Ride

Overview

Enjoy all Oregon has to offer by horseback, complete with wine tastings and beach riding. During this riding tour in the Pacific Northwest you will stay in comfortable inns starting in the burgeoning wine country of Willamette Valley, and continue through the Coastal Range mountains to end on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. This is a point-to-point ride that has both adventure and luxury with wine tastings and riding through vineyards, ascending forested mountain trails, and galloping on the beach! The hosts and their horses provide a unique European feel while still maintaining the west coast sense of adventure.

Accommodation is in small bed & breakfasts or private condos or rental homes, all with generous hospitality and a great feel for the Pacific Northwest.

Breakfast at the accommodations, picnic lunches and three dinners are included. All meals are farm-fresh and local, including seafood on the coast. Two wine tastings are also included, depending on interest.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Sunday

Arrive in McMinnville in time for a 7:30pm meeting with your hosts. Spend the night at a bed & breakfast, in the prime wine country of the Willamette Valley. The nearest airport is Portland (PDX), about an hour and a half away. You can rent a car from there or we can give you suggestions for transfers. Dinner not included in trip price, can be location of your choice.

Day 2

Monday

After breakfast at the B&B, meet at your hosts’ farm in Carlton at 10am (drive yourself in a rental car or use a transfer service). Your first ride allows you to view Kendall Jackson and Lois Jadot vineyards as you get to know your horse. After lunch in your hosts’ farmhouse ride through the rolling vineyard land to end at Carlton Hill Vineyard and end your day with a tasting. Stay another night at the B&B, enjoying dinner with the riders tonight.

Day 3

Tuesday

After being picked up at accommodations drive further west into the Coastal Range mountains, ride the lush wooded trails in this temperate rainforest in the Pacific Northwest. Stay tonight in a beach view house, enjoy the beach sunsets, walking on the beach and hearing the surf while you sleep in the quaint coastal village of Neskowin. Dinner will be an informal pizza, pasta and salad dinner in your beach house.

Day 4

Wednesday

Start the day with a warmup ride through an old Dairy Farmland and then hack through the village of Neskowin. Ride on the beach by the dramatic and picturesque rock formations. You may see the ancient ghost forest of Neskowin, then make your way down the lengthy, seven-mile beach and some trails on the high tide line shore pines as well. Dinner tonight is on your own, we suggest Cafe on Hawk Creek or the Beach Club Bistr.

Day 5

Thursday

Leave your condo at 11am to ride in local state park which has wonderful trails on a sand spit beach and also along the Nestucca River. Climbing up the beautiful sand dunes allows for rewarding sights of the pacific. Picnic at a site with tables and bathroom facilities before continuing on to Neskowin. At the end of the ride the horses will be transferred back to Carlton, and you will return back to the McMinville B&B. Farewell dinner will be local farm to table type, family-style.

The three of us that took this ride were very impressed with the ride itself, the accommodations, food, and with how we were treated as guests by the hosts!  It was a fabulous experience!!  The guides were terrific in providing instruction, the scenery was beautiful, and the horses were great.  What I really loved about this ride was the diversity of riding—3 days in the Coastal range (and each mountain we were on had something different about it), a day riding on the beach and in the water; and two days in the vineyard countryside .  The places we stayed were outstanding (best accommodations I have ever had on a ride) and we were taken to special restaurants for dinner. For many reasons, I think this was THE BEST RIDE I have been on!
