This unique riding adventure in Chile takes place in the spring, an ideal time to visit. Experience an ever-changing natural beauty as you venture off the main hiking trails and into the heart of the vast and varied landscape of the Torres del Paine National Park. The ‘Torres’, great granite towers and the mountains of the Paine massif dominate the park. Surrounding the massif is open rolling country with pockets of forests with the scarce “Lenga” and “Nires” trees, rivers, lagoons, waterfalls and incredible massifs or “Horns”, which reach 10,000 feet at their highest point. Great glaciers flow down from the southern Patagonian ice cap into the lakes of the park.
On this end of the season horse moving ride the horses are moved from the Estancia Tercera to their winter grazing pastures in the park. Most of the tourists have left the area so the trails are quiet, the days often windless and the mountain tops snow-capped. This is really a great time to visit the area. The sight of loose horses cantering in front of the mountains is very memorable. The ride starts at Lodge Guido, travels down to Tercera Barranca where the horses are picked up and continues onto the Serrano River and Grey Glacier and ending at the gorgeous Estancia Lazo. It is best suited for experienced riders who like to ride fast and long.
On the Glacier Estancia Horse Drive you stay in comfortable guesthouses and hosterias along the route. The treks are spent exploring this incredible park on horseback, with plenty of time in the mornings or late afternoons for short hikes, photography, or to just relax and enjoy the solitude of this remote wilderness.
